Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art / combat sport based around ground fighting techniques and submission holds. The focus of BJJ is the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling them, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via Joint Locks and Chokes.

Jack openly credits BJJ as the art that made him fall in love with martial arts - the way it was so openly tested in combat, and how BJJ is so technical but its techniques can be broken down into the most simplest form.

Jack had tried other martial arts growing up and always questioned the effectiveness of them but for BJJ, it was right there being tested, especially in early MMA like the first UFC and Pride FC events. Jack found BJJ in 2004 and has continued training ever since receiving the majority of his grades while in Brazil, including his Black Belt under professor Roberto “Gordo” Correa De Lima.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

Originating from Vale Tudo MMA is a full-contact combat sport based on striking, grappling and ground fighting, incorporating techniques from various combat sports from around the world. MMA is currently the fastest growing sport in the world due to the rising popularity of promotions like the UFC, Bellator and Cage Warriors to name a few.

At Mad Hatters we have picked the most effective mix of boxing, Muay Thai, K1, BJJ and Wrestling techniques and packed them into our classes to give you a taste of them all and provide a broad skill set.

So whether you are looking to compete yourself or simply get as fit as your favorite UFC fighters we are here to help.

Muay Thai / Striking

Muay Thai, sometimes referred to as Thai boxing, is a discipline that utilises stand-up striking along with various clinch techniques. This discipline is known as the "art of eight limbs", as it is characterised by the combined use of Fists, Elbows, Knees and Shins.

Initially it was the fear of this art that made Jack begin practicing it. Moving to Thailand and training under Kru Jackie (Lumpini Champion).

While in Thailand Jack lived in the gym training with Thai and Dutch K1 fighters at Super Pro Samui for 2 years. Fighting in Chaweng Stadium against tough native Thais he experienced both wins and losses, but it was experience that rapidly improved his skillset and gave him the knowledge he passes on to his students today.
